- Ray
Elementary School (K-5) 643-6655, http://www.sau70.org/index.htm
- Richmond
Middle School (6-8) 643-6040, http://www.sau70.org/index.htm
- Hanover
High School (9-12) 643-3431, http://www.sau70.org/index.htm
School
Districts and Boards
The
three Hanover schools are divided into two districts, each governed by
its own board. Both districts are part of School Administrative Unit
(SAU) #70 .
- Hanover
School District covers grades K-6 (K-5 at the Ray School and sixth
grade at the Richmond School). It is governed by the Hanover School
Board, elected by Hanover voters.
- Dresden
School District covers grades 7-12 (the Richmond Middle and Hanover
High Schools). It is governed by the Dresden School Board-made up of
the seven-member Hanover School Board (elected by Hanover voters) plus
four voting and one non-voting members of the Norwich School Board
(elected by Norwich voters).
- SAU
#70: School districts in New Hampshire are grouped geographically into
School Administrative Units (SAU's). SAU #70 in Hanover covers three
districts: Hanover, Norwich, and Dresden. The SAU office, also called
"the Superintendent's Office," is located at 45 Lyme Road, 643-6050.

Community
Resources at the Schools
Libraries:
The public
school libraries are community resources for use by any resident. The
Ray School Library has 30,000 resource items (including books,
magazines, videos etc). The Ray School Library is also open mornings
during most of the summer. The Richmond Middle School holds about
10,000 books. Hanover High School library has about 18,000 books.
Courses:
Hanover
residents may take courses at the middle and high schools by prior
arrangement if there is room in the class.
Ray
School Grounds:
Play Space
and hiking trails in the back of the Ray School are open to the
community when school is not in session. The Colonial House at the Ray
School is also open to the public, by prior arrangement through the
school office; a fee may be charged. The house is kept locked when not
in scheduled use.
Citizen
Participation in Public Education
Citizens
are encouraged to participate in school government. For general
information about how school government works, see the bright yellow
booklet Know Your Government, mailed to all Hanover taxpayers in the
fall of 1999 and available at Town Hall and libraries or on-line at
www.uppervalleyleague.org. Specifically, you are encouraged to attend
the…
- School
District Annual Meetings, held yearly each March: Come to the public
hearings before and vote during the School District Annual Meetings.
During these annual meetings, citizens vote on board members, the
school budgets, and other school issues.
- Regular
School Board meetings, held monthly throughout the year. For current
information about the school board and meetings, call the SAU office,
643-6050 or visit http://www.sau70.org/index.htm
In
addition, parent organizations at each school include…
- PTO
(Parent Teacher Organization) at the Ray School: Janne Piper (643-8091)
- Parents
Circle groups at the Richmond School: Susan Finer (643-6040)
- ASAP
(Alliance of School and Parents) at the high school: Janice O'Donnell
(643-2729) and Marshall Krumpe (643-2763)
Other
opportunities for involvement include…
- Volunteering
through the Hanover Schools Volunteer Program (643-2784) which
coordinates many volunteer activities at all three schools.
- Joining
the Friends of the Hanover and Norwich Schools (Kathy Snyder,
802.649-2914), which provides funding for a variety of special extra
activities for the local schools.
- Becoming
involved in the Hanover High School Council (Marilyn Blight, 643-3431,
ext. 230). This group is not a student council, but rather a
decision-making group that includes community representatives, HHS
staff, and students. Its meetings are open to the public and broadcast
on CATV/8.
Information
in this directory was revised in 2001. Since then we have relied
on
representatives of the organizations listed to send us updated
information. We appreciate your help.
