Knitting:

Camping

Storrs Pond
has 31 campsites in a wooded environment; 16 have electricity and water; 15 are for tents. 643-2134.

Canoeing

Dartmouth Outing Club:

Ledyard Canoe Club

Upper Valley Land Trust
UVLT maintains several primitive campsites along the Connecticut River for paddlers. For maps and information see www.uvlt.org/campsites  or call 603-643-6626.

Other canoeing, kayaking, running, cycling, skating, and triathlon events

supports a wide range of programs and activities in the out-of-doors. Outdoor activities

Golf:
Hanover Country Club, public golf course, over 100 years old, 18 holes. 646-2000.

Horseback riding:
Dartmouth Riding Center at the Morton Farm, 646-3508.

Hiking

Appalachian Trail:
runs from Georgia to Maine; passes over the Ledyard Bridge and through Hanover. www.atconf.org

Dartmouth Outing Club:
maintains hundreds of miles of trails for hiking and biking, including Oak Hill at Storrs Pond, maps available, 646-2134.

Dartmouth Outing Guide:
booklet available at the Dartmouth Bookstore, provides local trail information for hiking and rock climbing. The following nearby hikes offer breathtaking views from their summits: Mounts Cardigan, Ascutney, and Cube and Moose Mountain.

Short local hikes:
The Hanover Trails Association publishes trail maps of various short hikes of local natural areas, as well of older Hanover homes; these maps are available for a nominal fee at the Nugget Theater and Town Hall. Doug McIlroy, 643-5844.

Upper Valley Land Trust
A number of landowners who have conserved their property with UVLT have also chosen to allow public trails on their land. Thanks to the generosity of these landowners, the help of individual volunteers, and the support of partner organizations, UVLT is able to provide more than 20 trails on conserved lands throughout the Upper Valley for use by community members. Running:

Sailing:

Skiing

Alpine (downhill) and snowboarding:
Dartmouth Skiway, 795-2143; Storrs Hill (community-run, nonprofit ski hill in Lebanon), 448-4009; and at other private ski areas nearby.

Nordic (cross-country), groomed:
The Dartmouth Outdoor Programs/Silver Fox Ski and Skate Center maintains and grooms 25 km of Nordic ski trails (which wind from the Dartmouth Outing Club House on Occum Pond all the way to Oak Hill, near Storrs Pond); trail passes, maps, and winter equipment rental are available at their Center at the north end of Occum Pond. 643-6534, silver.fox@dartmouth.edu

Nordic, ungroomed:
cross-country skiing on ungroomed areas on the golf course, Garipay Field, or in Pine Park is free and open at any time.

The Ford Sayre Ski Council
is a volunteer group providing recreational and racing skiing instruction for children and adults in Nordic, Alpine, and freestyle skiing, ski jumping and snowboarding. 643-2226.  http://www.fordsayre.org/
