1. Studies show states that allow Election Day Registration have the highest voter turnout. These states include New Hampshire and Maine. Do you support Election Day Registration? Why or why not?
2. Governor - What changes would you propose the Vermont health care system to create a sustainable system that assures all Vermonters access to affordable health care?
3. Governor + Do you believe that Vermont has a sound Energy Plan for the future? Please explain.
4. Since some elections have long lines. Should the state promote its "Early Vote" provision? If so, how?
5. The state is having trouble with costs of maintenance for infrastructure. How would you provide for the needed increase needed for proper maintenance?
6. The price of gas has dropped over $0.50/gal since early summer. Do you feel that raising the gas tax by $0.02/gal to help pay for the repair of Vermont's failing roads and bridges is good policy or an unnecessary tax?
7. Are the recent changes for Act 60 (Act 68) proving an adequate way to fairly share the costs of education? If the system needs repair, how would you modify it?
8. What do you have to say to someone who has done everything right (savings in bank, college degree, works two jobs), yet still can't afford to buy a home in Vermont?
9. Governor --- Would you recognize a connection between land use planning and issues such as living affordability, climate change, job growth and economic and environmental sustainability? And, what would be the key elements of your plan?
10. Governor / others -- Our population in Vermont is declining and many of our college graduates are forced to find jobs in another state. What would do about educating and providing jobs for the next generation? Should we have a requirement that students receving state education aid be required to work in our state for a certain period of time if they receive these grants? How can we do this if there are no good paying jobs available?
11. August budget cuts hit hard at programs for seniors and people with disabilities, including Choices for Care, Attendant Care Services and Developmental Service Agencies. For every 40 cents "saved" Vermont lost 60 cents in federal funds - a really high price to pay by those least able to afford it. What will you do to prevent further cuts to vulnerable populations, and to stem the loss of needed federal dollars?
12. With the contracts of Vermont Yankee and Hydro Quebec about to expire in the next 5 years we will need to and can replace this energy supply with renewable energy from Vermont. One source of energy will be wind. What would you to expedite the location and placement of wind power in Vermont?
13. Now that the North East Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) compact has been initiated, what other measures can the state take to reduce climate change?
