Lyme Town and School Government

The voters at Town Meeting form the legislative body of the Town of Lyme. Any registered voter is eligible to express his or her views, vote on the articles to the Town Warrant, and elect town officers on this day.

The Warrant for Town Meeting, prepared by the Selectmen, includes the budget of the Town’s agencies and items necessary to carry on the Town’s business, as well as issues on which the Selectmen want expression of the voters’ opinion. In addition, an article presented to the Selectmen with 22 voters’ signatures on it, at least 35 days before Town Meeting, must appear on the Warrant. A copy of the Warrant must be posted not later than two weeks prior to the day of the meeting.

The Lyme School Board, comprised of seven members, meets at 7 pm on the fourth Thursday of each month. The School Board is responsible for the Lyme School and has authority over all school matters. The Board prepares the school budget which is voted upon at the Annual Lyme School District Meeting. The election of School Board members takes place at the Annual Town Meeting.

Kindergarten through grade eight meet in the Lyme School. The town pays tuition for high school students to attend any accredited public high school.
